INTERVIEW BY www.leboogie.com

After a good stint off the foam in late 2011 and early 2012, Chris James has been loving life of late. Back on the boogie, back on the court and back on the road.

Wherever there have been waves of late I’ve been going. All ’round Oz, but had some good ramps down the coast last week. Probably just surfing round Newy on this next little pulse. Nuggan the other day was honestly the first real good session of bowls I’ve had since being injured. I was almost tempted to make a last minute bolt down the coast tomorrow, but flagged it cause I’m being a little bitch…

In terms of wins and losses my record on the road of late has been pretty good. Had a bit of a rough patch there for a bit… even Shane from Nomad said to Toinzy “that I had being making a few suss calls”. That semi-rattled me… there were a few long road trips where I didn’t even get into a wettie. Sometimes you just feel cursed.

The ASP calling off the event in Fiji when it was massive was pretty poor I reckon… they were some phenomenal waves and the pay packets and egos some of them have; they should man up and just have a dig. In saying that, most of the guys that would’ve loved to compete in those conditions are down to earth and probably not even competing on the ASP. I think they need a tour for those guys where that’s the kind of conditions they are looking for. Personally, I couldn’t tell you if I would’ve had a go in those waves. It looks semi-unpractical for a boog. I don’t know if you would go fast enough to come out of ’em, but it’s always different when you’re there… I’d like to think I would have a go.

Call me crazy, but I reckon the Heat were always going to win the NBA finals this year. With Lebron adjusting his game and the supporting cast doing anything that was required to win at all costs… going through what they did last year always helps and the Thunder didn’t make enough adjustments to get ’em out of the ditch, just running with what worked for them all year. As for Lebron, he’s too fast, too strong, too good. The only people who rag on him do so to feel relevant. D-Wade and Paul Pierce are still better though.

Controversial opinions about bodyboarding that I’m harbouring right now… Where do I START? As great as the world tour is, I just don’t have any interest in it. I bodyboard for me, surf the way I want and would never sacrifice my own style… I’m saying this because I get so many messages on Facebook and the like from people asking me why I don’t do the comps. Yeah, cool, they’re now held in good waves, but I can go get good waves with no crowds anywhere around the world without a rashie on. That, and I’d choke harder than Durant.
